At the request of a well respected customer,  Seven Seas has developed a small tool pouch that bolts to the rear fender of a dirt bike.  This pouch is 2″ tall 4 3/4″ wide and 8″ long, with a heavy duty zipper running around three sides.  This pouch is supplied finished, but final installation is left to the end user.  At the rear of the bag is a short piece of 2″ backpack webbing.  A small hole is punched through this webbing, a hole is drilled through the fender, and the pouch is then bolted to the fender.  At the forward end of the pouch, 1″ webbing runs out either side and is bolted to the frame.  Because this webbing is susceptible to abrasion, it is not sewn to the pouch.  Instead, it feeds through a channel in the underside of the pouch for easy replacement.  The top of the pouch has a strip of 2″ pile tape for the attachment of a 5″x8″ clear plastic map case.  To better secure the tools, two cinch straps wrap around the entire pouch.  It is made from 1050 ballistic nylon for rugged use.  This pouch is available for $80 plus shipping.

Seven Seas Canvas is now offering heavy duty tool pouches, made to your specs. All pouches are made from 1050 Ballistic Nylon for long term durability. Removable inserts are custom made to hold your specific tools. All pouches arrive ready for issue. The US Navy is now ordering these flight deck tool pouches, made in accordance with Naval Aviation tool control programs. We can manufacture tool pouches for any work center and any aircraft. We have recently developed a trimmed down and user friendly Plane Captain pouch for the F/A-18 aircraft. This pouch was developed for the E/F Super Hornets, as well as legacy Hornets with input from VFA-122 Plane Captains in Lemoore, CA. Heavy duty belts are also available. These belts are made from heavy nylon webbing and feature FOD free, knurled parachute adjuster bars. These belts can be ordered in a specific length, or we can provide them long, giving you the ability to cut them to length. The price starts at $255 for a Plane Captain tool pouch. Work centers with more tools, such as Air Frames and the Av/Arm Division are more. The cost to R&D a tool pouch for your organization is $300. We require that you send us an existing tool pouch with tools. Through e-mail or phone conversation, we will determine what features your organization is looking for. We will then produce and send you a prototype. Your maintenance personnel will have an opportunity to use the prototype and then suggest any changes. The US Army Corps of Engineers at the John Day Dam in Oregon, recently chose Seven Seas Canvas to make a full cover for their 25′ rigid hull inflatable boat. This boat was made by Boulton Boats in Sounthern Oregon. The cover was made from Seamark marine fabric. Seamark is a product of Haartz, and is made from Sunbrella acrylic canvas that has been bonded to Haartz marine grade vinyl. It is completely waterproof and very durable. All stress points have been reinforced and the entire project was sewn with Tenara sewing thread. Tenara is a teflon based thread that is unaffected by UV, moisture, and acids. The combination of these products results in an extremely durable and long lasting cover.
Because of the size of this cover, I made it in two pieces which zip together just aft of the tower with heavy duty #10 YKK zippers. The forward section is secured to the tower with seatbelt webbing and heavy plastic buckles. This takes the strain off the zippers and allows the aft portion to be removed, leaving the bulkier forward section in place. Included with these covers, as with all Seven Seas Canvas covers, are heavy duty storage bags.

The most common thread used for marine canvas is polyester. Polyester is not quite as strong as nylon, but it is much more resistant to Ultra Violet rays from the sun. A boat cover sewn with nylon thread is lucky to last two years. A cover sewn with polyester thread will last several years longer, varying on the amount and intensity of sunlight it receives. However, it is very common for high quality marine fabrics to outlast the thread it is sewn with. As a result, many boat tops and covers need to be re-sewn at some point in their life. This is an added expense and added hasle to the boat owner. (From a fabricator’s view, re-sewing certain items like dodgers is more difficult than making a new one!) This is where Tenera thread really shines. Tenara thread came on the market ten years ago and is made in the US by the same company that makes Gore-Tex. Tenara is a teflon based thread that has proven to be unaffected by UV radiation, cleaning agents, pollution, weather and salt water. Tenara thread is not quite as strong as polyester, (8-10 lbs for Tenara, 14 for polyester) but the strength of Tenara does not degrade over time like polyester and nylon. It comes with the following factory warranty: “Tenara sewing thread will not be damaged by exposure to sunlight, weather or water during the life of the fabric with which it is used. This warranty covers all marine applications except sails.” For a small upcharge, Seven Seas Canvas will use Tenara sewing thread on your project so you will never have to worry about burst seams or have to pay for a re-sew.
